EMT/Paramedic/RN Jobs

First Responder Careers

Being a first responder isn't an easy job—the reality is people's lives depend on the speedy, competent care our EMTs, paramedics and RNs provide.

As a first responder, you have to be willing to work hard, move fast and go above and beyond for your patients. In return, you gain the satisfaction of helping others, while building your skills and your career.

First Responder Roles

At Rural/Metro, we offer a variety of EMT opportunities to fit each individual's schedule and skill set. We offer both full time and part time positions, as well as training and tuition reimbursement for those looking to grow their career as an EMT.

  •

EMT-Basic, or EMT-1, is the first level of the EMT career path. They receive training that covers key emergency skills, so they can assess a patient's condition and manage respiratory, cardiac and trauma emergencies. They care for patients at the scene of an accident and while transporting patients by ambulance to the hospital under medical direction.

  •

EMT-Intermediate, or EMT-2 and EMT-3, receives advanced training that allows the administration of intravenous fluids; the use of manual defibrillators to give life-saving shocks to a stopped heart; and the use of advanced airway techniques to assist patients experiencing respiratory emergencies.

  •

EMT-Paramedics, or EMT-4, provide the most extensive pre-hospital care. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, paramedics may also administer drugs orally and intravenously, interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), perform endotracheal intubations and use more complex equipment.

  •

Many EMTs go on to further their education in nursing. At Rural/Metro, our RNs respond to critical care transport requests, provide general and Advanced Life Support (ALS) medical care, and transport critically ill patients in both emergency and non-emergency settings via our mobile care center. This opportunity is ideal for emergency room or ICU nurses who are seeking flexible work, but still want to make an impact in the community.

Work Hard and Get Rewarded

In addition to a challenging and rewarding work environment, our first responders also enjoy an exceptional benefits package, competitive pay, flexible work schedules, and a career path that allows for continued training and education.
